Richard D. Sanders represents a variety of healthcare providers on a broad range of issues, including business transactions, fraud and abuse compliance (Anti-Kickback Statute and Stark), Certificate of Need (CON) issues, medical staff credentialing, Medicare reimbursement, antitrust policy, and legislative activities. He also assists providers in their relationships with federal and state regulatory agencies.

 After graduating from Duke University in 1992 with a double-major in political science and history, Rich earned his Juris Doctor degree from the Emory University School of Law in 1996. In 2013, Rich was rated as a “Top Rated Lawyer in HealthCare Law” and has a AV Preeminent® peer review rating from Martindale-Hubbell™. Rich currently serves on the adjunct faculty at Emory University and teaches courses in business and regulatory law. In 2004, he was awarded Professor of the Year. Rich is a former intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy, where he worked with an Atlanta-based unit supporting the U.S. Sixth Fleet in Naples, Italy. 

His non-profit activities have included: Secretary of the Board of Buckhead Baseball (Cal Ripken League), Member of the Board of the Garden Hills Neighborhood Foundation, and member of the Midtown Atlanta Rotary Club. He and his wife Rebekah live in Buckhead and have three children: James (2000), William (2002) and Caroline (2005). They are members of the Cathedral of St. Philip Episcopal Church in Atlanta.

Jeffrey M. Sarah M. Benator is a Partner at the Sanders Law Firm where she regularly advises hospital, health center and physician practice group clients on a variety of general corporate and regulatory compliance matters. Sarah has significant experience assisting health care clients in corporate business transactions, including joint ventures and the sale or purchase of health care entities and assets. After graduating from the University of Michigan in 2006 with a B.A. in Psychology, Sarah earned her Juris Doctor degree from the Emory University School of Law in 2009. In 2010 Sarah earned her Master of Public Health degree with a concentration in Health Policy from Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health. Sarah currently serves on the adjunct faculty at Emory University where she teaches a course on health care regulations to graduate students in the Rollins School of Public Health.

Christy P. Peek, born in Florence, Alabama, graduated from Vanderbilt University with a BA in English. In 1996, she graduated from the University of Alabama Law School, and later that year she was admitted to the Alabama State Bar. Christy is licensed to practice before all State Courts in Alabama and the United States District Courts for the Northern, Middle, and Southern Districts of Alabama. Christy is also licensed to practice before the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Christy’s professional activities include memberships with the Birmingham Bar Association and American Bar Association. Christy Peek specializes in litigation, including healthcare litigation, and has had experience in the following areas:

Katy Lucas has more than ten years of experience representing plaintiffs and defendants in a wide variety of healthcare litigation matters, including contract disputes, government investigations, business tort actions and class actions.  Ms. Lucas also has substantive experience in healthcare contracting issues related to mergers and acquisitions, physician practices, and real estate. She regularly counsels clients on regulatory and compliance issues including contract drafting and review, due diligence investigations, Stark Law, the Anti-Kickback Statute, and HIPAA. 

Prior to joining Southern Health Lawyers, Ms. Lucas was an associate at the Atlanta office of King & Spalding, where she gained experience representing companies in litigation, investigations, and regulatory matters in state and federal courts. Ms. Lucas attended Vanderbilt University Law School, where she served as an associate editor for the Vanderbilt Journal of Entertainment Law and Practice. Ms. Lucas received her undergraduate degree from Southern Methodist University, magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa.

Lee Earnest is an Associate at Southern Health Lawyers whose practice involves a variety of healthcare topics. Lee works with healthcare providers to structure deals and craft policies that achieve desired outcomes while ensuring compliance with federal and state regulations. Lee graduated from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2015, where he served as Articles Editor on the Executive Board of the Virginia Journal of Law and Technology. Prior to law school, Lee worked as a technical adviser at Epic Systems, a healthcare software company. Lee attended the University of Georgia for his undergraduate education where he graduated magna cum laude with degrees in Finance and Economics.

Amanda M.
